About Us
A community-based behavioral health and independent living provider serving Hampton Roads.
We are not a rehabilitation facility. We are a community-based behavioral health and independent living program.
That distinction matters, and it is the first thing we want referral sources and families to understand. Our work is helping adults live more independently in their own communities — not housing them indefinitely, and not treating them as patients to be managed.
What we do
Prolific Counseling Group provides crisis intervention, stabilization, skills training, and long-term community support to adults across Hampton Roads. Our services run from the most acute end — mobile crisis response and short-term crisis residential care — through intensive outpatient treatment, psychosocial rehabilitation, and the day-to-day case management that keeps a recovery intact.
The common thread is that care happens in the community wherever it can. Skills learned in a clinic do not always survive contact with real life, so our teams work in homes, on bus routes, at benefits offices, and at pharmacy counters.
Our approach
We build treatment plans around the person rather than the diagnosis. That means starting with what someone actually wants to be able to do — hold a job, keep an apartment, see their kids, stay out of the hospital — and working backward to the clinical and practical steps that get them there.
Our teams combine licensed clinicians, qualified mental health professionals, nurses, and peer recovery specialists who have lived through serious mental illness or substance use themselves. That last group is not an add-on. For many people, talking to someone who has actually been where they are is what makes the difference.
Who we serve
Adults 18 and older across Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and the surrounding Hampton Roads communities. We accept Virginia Medicaid and managed care plans, and we work closely with hospital discharge planners, community services boards, probation and parole, shelters, and primary care providers.
One-to-one, built around your life
Skill building happens in the real places where life gets hard — at the kitchen table working out a budget, on the bus route to a new job, at the pharmacy counter sorting out a refill.
Every plan starts with what the person actually wants to be able to do, and the team works backward from there.
Groups that rebuild connection
Psychosocial rehabilitation and our intensive outpatient programs run in small groups, because isolation is often the thing keeping someone stuck.
Peer support specialists who have been through it themselves work alongside our clinical staff.
